Dr. McPherson’s research is focused on interrelationships between the neural control of movement and pain processing after spinal cord injury (SCI) and stroke. His work is rooted in the tight co-regulation of neural transmission in spinal motor and pain pathways and is motivated by the reality that for many individuals living with neurological injury, daily life is a balancing act between movement and pain. The ultimate goal of his work is to develop therapeutic strategies that leverage the interconnectivity of spinal motor and sensory networks to drive multi-modal rehabilitation.
