Abstract
Orthobiologics comprise biological products derived from human or animal tissues used to promote healing and regeneration in the treatment of various orthopedic conditions. The discovery of orthobiologics has opened a new avenue in the treatment of orthopedic injuries, particularly with the increased interest and utilization of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). MSCs are nonhematopoietic progenitor cells with the potential for self-replication, self-division, self-renewal, cellular regeneration, and multipotency. This chapter aims to discuss the historical use of orthobiologics and the orthopedic conditions that orthobiologics are used to treat in current practice.
