Abstract

The perturbed orbit plasma-turbulence theory of Dupree and Weinstock predicts the evolution of the electron-distribution function according to a diffusion equation. The electric field spectrum in one-dimensional electrostatic simulations of the modified two-stream instability is used to obtain the theoretical diffusion coefficient. The diffused distribution function is compared with the actual distribution function in the simulation as a test of the theory.
