Abstract

The isospin dependence of light and heavy fragments emitted from excited nuclear systems and the change in isospin behavior between light and heavy fragments are studied in this report. The <N/Z> is calculated using data reported in the literature and from the results of the simulation code SMM. A transition in the isospin behavior between light and heavy fragments may support the recently reported two-phase bifurcation of excited nuclear matter into a neutron-rich gas phase and a more symmetric liquid phase. * Present address: Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, St. Louis, Missouri 63110.
