Abstract

An approach for understanding and managing image flow from the time the image studies are acquired at the modality until they are available for clinician review is described. It is found that such an approach is essential for understanding an enterprise's complexities, measuring and monitoring activity, reacting responsibly to bottlenecking problems as they arise, reconfiguring resources to achieve better load balancing, and planning for anticipated growth. Without these or some equivalent workload-characterization tools, quality clinical image delivery may never be what it should.
