Abstract
In this chapter we review current data assessing the role of glutamate in the etiology of ADHD. A general introduction of ADHD and common comorbidities are briefly discussed. The glutamate system in general and its potential role in ADHD are thoroughly reviewed evaluating both preclinical and clinical data. The current ADHD treatments that act on the glutamate system, memantine and atomoxetine, are discussed. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the future of glutamatergic drugs in the treatment of ADHD.
