Abstract
Phagocytosis of opsonized antigen has been shown to be just the starting point for a sequence of biologic activities that encompasses virtually the full spectrum of immunologic reactivity. Included are antigen processing and presentation to the various lymphocyte populations and the release of soluble mediators that amplify the cellular and humoral limbs of the immune response.
