Abstract
Twin studies of symptoms of depression and anxiety in youth suggest moderate to marked heritabilities similar to those found in adult studies. Adult-twin studies using multivariate techniques also suggest that certain forms of anxiety largely overlap with depression in genetic terms. Family studies of affective disorders and anxiety disorders that include youth are reviewed from the point of view of whether evidence exists for shared genetic factors between childhood depression and anxiety syndromes.
