Abstract

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The purpose of this review is to provide a current overview of the latest research on the elbow joint in the field of orthopaedics. RECENT FINDINGS: Interest in the elbow joint has increased as evidenced by the 27 publications identified in a computerized literature search of peer-reviewed papers focusing on a variety of concepts. These concepts include ulnar and lateral collateral ligaments, specifically the diagnosis and treatment of these injuries, several case series examining recognition and management of trauma to the elbow, as well as biomechanical studies examining use of the elbow in sporting activities as well as understanding its function. SUMMARY: It is clear that more attention is being directed towards understanding the elbow and the treatment of injuries, but more work needs to be done.
