Abstract
This study evaluated the effects of adjuvants on the expression of the Ia glycoproteins by macrophages. We reasoned that one way in which adjuvants might augment the immune response would be by increasing the representation of Ia-positive macrophages in tissues. The two major experimental approaches were to test in vivo whether the compounds affected the ration of Ia-positive:Ia-negative peritoneal macrophages, and to test in culture for their effects on the expression of macrophage membrane Ia.
