Abstract

Injuries to the cervical spine constitute a range of conditions from acute traumatic injuries to chronic overuse and degenerative conditions. In addition to trauma to the cervical spine, several degenerative conditions present in athletes, and may be of substantial consequence to long-term function and career longevity. The sports physician will benefit from being familiar with examination of the neck and cervical spine, the neurologic examination, and presenting histories of common conditions, and imaging modalities and findings.
