Abstract
In this chapter, we consider critical thinking from the standpoint of individuals who are faced with a predicament: They have read something online, or in a magazine, or a newspaper and they want to know: Is it true? We suggest ten steps or strategies for discerning the truth of a claim about which you are unsure. Five of the strategies are useful for most any type of information, whereas the other five are most useful for scientific articles, or at least articles claiming to be based on science. We provide examples of how to evaluate particular claims using these ten strategies. We cannot guarantee that using these ten strategies will always bring Truth with a capital T, but we believe that they will bring a person closer to the truth.
