Abstract
Turbomachinery is a versatile energy conversion device widely used in power generation, aerospace, transportation, and other fields. The internal flow in turbomachinery exhibits significant unsteady characteristics. The rotation of the impeller generates rotor-stator interactions, leading to periodic unsteady flows. As a critical component of rotor-stator interactions, wake interference must be fully considered in turbomachinery design. This study reviews research on unsteady wakes in turbomachinery, aiming to elucidate their underlying flow mechanisms and characteristics. Particular emphasis is placed on the influence off wake effects on boundary layer transition and rotor-stator interactions. Additionally, effective methods for optimizing rotor-stator interference are briefly discussed. Finally, future research directions on unsteady wakes are proposed.
