Abstract

The study of covalent binding between estrogen quinones (EQ) and oligonucleotides by electrospray mass spectrometry (MS) is discussed. The resulting adducts may be implicated in human breast cancer. 2,3-EQ plays an important role by bonding covalently with DNA to give stable adducts. It is found that the 2,3-EQ forms a stable adduct that can be detected by matrix assisted laser desorption ionization/time of flight (MALDI/TOF) MS.
