Abstract

New spectroscopic information for the proton-rich nuclei 186Pb and 186Tl has been obtained from an experiment using the 48Ti+142Nd reaction at two different beam energies near the Coulomb barrier. The evaporation residue nuclei from this very fissile system have been selected with the detector system HERCULES and residue gated γ rays have been measured with GAMMASPHERE. The electric quadrupole (E2) character of several transitions in 186Pb has been established.
