Abstract

Power-dependent photoluminescence (PL) spectra of single CdSe quantum wires (QWs) are reported that contain two peaks associated with multiexciton states, a biexciton state and a triexciton state. The PL decay lifetimes for these states, 350(40) and 200(40) ps, are comparable to that of the single exciton state, 800(60) ps. The data reveal the weaker exciton-exciton interactions in QWs than in colloidal quantum dots. The ability to generate long-lived multiexcitons in QWs indicates their potential in optical-gain media and for multicarrier harvesting in photovoltaics.
