Abstract

This chapter includes clinical cases, background, evidence-based practical management options, preventive measures, key-point summaries of social media (SM) use in assisted reproductive technology (ART) and answers to questions patients ask. As the use of SM within the ART community increases, so does its power in helping patients and physicians educate and engage one another. This needs to be understood and harnessed by ART practitioners. In the 1990s, the early dial-up internet fostered the creation of static bulletin boards, chat groups and other types of passive message boards through a limited number of internet service providers (ISPs) like American Online (AOL). SM is one of the most popular online activities with an estimated 2.65 billion active users as of 2018 and a projected 3.1 billion users by 2021.
