Abstract
Although Fourier transform mass spectrometry is the method of choice for the study of ion-molecule reactions, the traditional method of sample introduction via standard leak valves can lead to problems. The recently introduced pulse valve inlet method can alleviate these problems by allowing neutral gases to be introduced as a pulse, so that the cell need not be cluttered with high partial pressures of reagents at all times. The sequential reaction sequence made possible by pulsed valve introduction of reagents enables many new experiments heretofor not readily performed by using conventional ion-molecule chemical techniques in FTMS.
