Self-pulsing in on-chip Er-doped microcavity lasers

Abstract

We characterize self-pulsing in erbium-doped microtoroidal lasers fabricated from solgel silica layer deposited on a silicon wafer. Effects of pump and taper-cavity coupling on peak power, period and width of laser pulses are investigated experimentally.
