Abstract

Partial nephrectomy is the mainstay of treatment for pT1a renal cell carcinoma. Robotic partial nephrectomy has been widely adopted as an acceptable approach with shorter convalescence and less blood loss. Robotic single site renal surgery has evolved as the next progression of minimally invasive surgery. With fewer incisions, patients may be able to achieve an even faster recovery and a more preferable cosmetic outcome over multiport robotic surgery. The challenge as single-port robotic techniques develop will be in obtaining these goals without compromising high quality, reproducible and safe surgical outcomes as well as completing more complex surgeries previously routinely approached through large open incisions.
