Abstract
This chapter posits that through an eco-effective (Braungart, McDonough, & Bollinger, 2007) approach, mindful of the micro- and macro-environment, respectful of both the individual need for personal expression and the global economic importance of the multi-faceted fashion industry, a sustainable future with fashion can be accomplished. By discussing the current fashion industry paradigm, I will examine a possible leadership path that could affect positive change by redirecting the fashion industry to foster sustainable practices. Situations will be explored where steps toward such paradigmatic redirection have successfully contributed to an eco-effective approach that provides novelty, satisfies psychological triggers related to desire and need, and maintains a positive economic influence by cultivating innovative methods to generate income.
