Abstract

Malignant lesions and subsequent resections are common on the helix, and there are many options available for reconstruction. For lesions involving the skin and cartilage, wedge resection is commonly performed with subsequent primary closure. For lesions involving skin only with intact cartilage framework, the surgeon can reconstruct the defect with local skin flaps without resecting underlying cartilage. In cases of malignancy, the skin on the postauricular surface is usually not involved due to decreased sun exposure, and this postauricular skin can be recruited to close defects on the helical rim.
