Abstract

Radionuclide arteriography is a safe, effective technique for diagnosing and following many orbital lesions. Technetium 99m pertechnetate is administered intravenously and its flow is followed by a scintillation camera. Our studies suggest that characteristic flow patterns can be used to distinguish among different lesions, such as arteriovenous communications and vascular tumors. This examination can also be used to assess the postoperative persistence or recurrence of lesions, and to follow the course of abnormalities such as carotid-cavernous sinus fistulas.
