Abstract

Age, disease, and concomitant use of other drugs can increase the risks associated with the prescription of psychotropics for older patients. But there are also significant benefits, because many symptoms of depression and psychosis respond to aggressive medical therapy. Knowledge of a drug's pharmacokinetics is helpful, but the patient's response is the gold standard of therapy.
