Abstract

Solitary plasmacytoma of the upper air and food passages is a rare tumor. The largest number of cases collected at any one institution was 27 from the Memorial Hospital in New York. This paper deals with a study of a total of 20 patients seen and treated at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary for the past three decades. The clinical data, including age, sex, symptoms, laboratory findings, clinical course, treatment, and prognosis of this group of patients, are presented. Various factors affecting the prognosis are discussed.
