Abstract

Past work on instabilities in unsymmetric rotors has shown that instabilities can conceivably occur whenever the sum or difference of two natural frequencies equals an integer multiple of the rotor speed. It is also known that some of these potential instabilities are relalized neither analytically nor experimentally. Rules are developed that predict which potential instabilities will occur in the presence of zero damping.
