Abstract

The first example of an anionic phosphapentadienide reagent, lithium phosphapentadienide, has been isolated and spectroscopically characterized. Reaction of this species with (Cl)Ir(PEt₃)₃ yielded the phosphido-bridged iridium dimer (μ-η¹-phosphapentadienyl)₂Ir₂(PEt₃)₄ as trans and cis isomers (1a and 1b, respectively). An X-ray crystal structure of 1a has been obtained.
