Abstract

Hybrid cardiac PET/MRI is an emerging imaging modality with great potential but also unresolved challenges. The current chapter is a discussion of this evolving technology as applied to imaging cardiac inflammation. We start with the history of the development of PET/MRI and then review its capabilities as well as its limitations with a specific focus on contemporary technical and logistical challenges which impede its widespread adoption. This is followed by an in-depth examination of the potential clinical applications of hybrid PET/MRI in imaging cardiac inflammation, and proposed acquisition protocols. Finally, a suggested format for study interpretation and reporting is outlined. The chapter concludes with a short account of the future directions of the technology.
