Abstract

Chronic low back pain remains one of the most common and disabling medical conditions that is associated with reduced quality of life and functionality. There are multiple treatment modalities available due to the diverse etiologies and presentations of low back pain. Peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) is becoming an increasingly utilized modality for the treatment of refractory, chronic low back pain. PNS has evolved over the past 50 years to allow for a more minimally invasive and targeted therapeutic approach. There is increasing focus on stimulating the lumbar medial branch nerves as a PNS target to treat chronic low back pain. This chapter aims to discuss two different, commercially available PNS systems that are being utilized for the treatment of chronic low back pain and the emerging data on their efficacy.
