N2 - This paper presents a statistical analysis of the sine wave frequency estimate obtained by the adaptive notch filter (ANF) recently proposed in [1]. Asymptotically valid expressions for the bias and mean square error of the frequency estimate are provided. The analysis of this paper verifies the excellent performance exhibited by the ANF of [1] in a number of simulations, and clarifies the role of some user variables such as the notch bandwidth and the number of data samples processed.
