Abstract

It has been reported that benign and malignant thrombi may be distinguishable by its F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose uptake on PET, the malignant thrombus having a higher uptake as compared with the benign. Tumor thrombus may involve the portal vein and inferior vena cava in patients with abdominal or pelvic malignancy. We present a case of a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor with hepatic and regional lymph node metastases and with an uptake pattern along the inferior mesenteric vein on Ga-68 DOTA-TATE PET/CT similar to those reported for a malignant tumor thrombus diagnosed with F-18 FDG PET/CT.
