Abstract

Contemporary pain management protocols and surgical techniques have allowed for total joint arthroplasty to be performed safely in the outpatient setting in the appropriate patient. Careful attention to patient selection and ambulatory surgery center protocols are needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes. This chapter aims to highlight outpatient total joint arthroplasty at the authors’ institution and review recent literature pertaining to the safety and implementation of an outpatient total joint replacement program.
