Abstract
Ventilation of outdoor air to the indoors is a source of indoor air pollution. During the CASA campaign performed at the NIST Net-Zero Energy Residential Test Facility, NOx and O3 were measured with between the three floors of the house and the outdoors five-minute time resolution. Infiltration of outdoor NOx plumes to the indoors was observed. Coincident with the infiltration of NOx was complete reaction of O3 indoors and outdoors, with NOx, suggesting the importance of outdoor pollution in forming NO2 and NO3 radicals indoors. We explore the potential for NO3 radical formation during NOx plume events and point to the unique perturbations on indoor VOC oxidation chemistry at the outdoor-indoor air interface.
