Abstract
An estimated 20 million inguinal hernia repairs are performed yearly worldwide, most of them through an open approach. Because a higher recurrence rate is often reported in tissue-based repairs, a majority of surgeons utilize the Lichtenstein tension-free mesh repair. Though serious postoperative complications are infrequent, chronic post-herniorrhaphy groin pain is more common. The operative steps of the Lichtenstein tension-free mesh repair are described in this chapter.
