Abstract

The vectoring control of a primary jet with an averaged-zero-mass-flux synthetic jet in the "pull" mode is investigated using the two dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. Comparisons are made between the numerical results and the experiments. Interactions between the synthetic jet and the primary jet are studied. The vectoring effect of some parameters of the synthetic jet, such as the distance from the primary jet, oscillating frequency, velocity amplitude and the angle, are calculated and the optimal values of these parameters for the largest vectoring benefit are estimated. A hypothesis to explain the vectoring process is provided.
