Abstract

Flow over a backward facing step with and without a synthetic jet is simulated. The effect of the Reynolds number on the reattachment length in laminar and turbulent flow is computed. The results are compared with the computations of Rogers and Kwak, and Le et al for laminar and turbulent flow respectively. Flow control over a backward facing step using a synthetic jet is studied. The effect of synthetic jet velocity, frequency and its position upon the reattachment length and separated flow is computed. The influence of two synthetic jets with phase difference between them is also studied.
