Abstract
The importance and effectiveness of early mental-health intervention for infants and toddlers is becoming established. This paper addresses the unique considerations required for the comprehensive assessment and treatment of these young patients, particularly the salience of the dyadic relationship and temperamental characteristics of the child. Research constructs that have contributed to clinical tools in this area are described.
