Abstract
The long-term management of children with congenital malformations of the central nervous system or genetic disorders affecting brain development remains a challenging issue in pediatrics today. Over the last year, clinical and radiologic criteria have been developed which may provide more detailed prognostic information about infants and children with these conditions. In addition, advances have been made in our understanding of the pathogenesis of neural tube defects, one of the most common and tragic congenital malformations in man.
