N2 - In the third generation wireless communication, one of main features is high speed packet data service over WCDMA or CDMA2000 air interface. But due to handoff procedures for both air interface and Mobile IP, there are lots of signaling traffics at air interface during handover. We introduce a network architecture and protocol that solves this problem. By our proposed scheme, we can reduce signaling traffics for the handoff procedure regarding the Mobile IP at air interface. With minimal change of current Mobile IP, air interface and SS7, we can get more efficient use of radio resources. Based on the simulation result, our proposed scheme shows better performance in terms of data packet delay when there are more frequent handoff s under heavy data traffic load.
