Abstract

NK cells are critical innate effector cells that serve as first responders to many viral diseases and in surveillance of early malignant transformation. Improved understanding of their biology, recognition of their importance in cancer treatment (particularly in the setting of bone marrow transplantation), and development of approaches for augmenting function and generating cells for adoptive immunotherapy have enabled a new era of clinical trials aimed at improving number and function of these cells for clinical benefit.
