Multiple myeloma: An update on current and emerging treatment options

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Multiple myeloma is a cancer in which plasma cells are produced in proliferative amounts at the expense of normal blood cells. Typically a disease of older age, multiple myeloma results in significant consequences such as anemia and bone fractures and is expensive to treat. Although treatments including chemotherapy, stem cell transplant, proteasome inhibitors, and immune modulating agents have improved survival, this is not yet a curable disease.
