Abstract

BASIC CONCEPTS OF HYPERTROPHY AND HEART FAILURE The past three decades have witnessed a revolution in our understanding of the molecular determinants of the cardiac stress response leading to hypertrophy and heart failure. The genesis of currently held concepts was delineation of complex signaling pathways initiated by neurohormones or growth factors that cause, modify, and antagonize cardiac hypertrophy. This chapter provides an overview of some of these findings.
