Abstract

The goal of this paper is to modify the Wray-Agarwal Transition Model (WA-γ) to simulate the transitional flow over rough flat plates for different sand-grain roughness heights. Modifications to the WA-γ transition model and the boundary conditions are derived and the modified model is employed for simulation of rough wall flows. Computational results for flat plate transitional flow cases for various free stream turbulence intensities and different roughness height are computed and compared with the experimental data. For transition location as well as the skin-friction coefficient on the plate, good agreement between the computations and the experimental data is obtained.
