Abstract
Obesity is a risk factor for many serious medical diseases. Modest weight loss (5%-10% of initial weight) can be achieved by many patients and improves many of the medical abnormalities associated with obesity. The cornerstone of obesity therapy involves the difficult process of implementing life-long lifestyle modifications in dietary intake and physical activity. Pharmacologic agents can be used as an additional tool to help selected patients achieve long-term success.
