Abstract
Reaction of MnBr2 with potassium 2,4-di-methyipentadienide and P(CH3)3 results in the formation of (η8-2,4,7,9-tetramethyl-1,3I7,9-decatetraene)(tri-methylphosphine)manganese (1). The decatetraene ligand is derived from the manganese-centered coupling of two 2,4-dimethylpentadienyl ligands. The crystal structure of 1, as determined by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study, is reported. A mechanism for the pentadienyl coupling reaction is proposed.
