Abstract

This chapter introduces a large protein family named laminins that are intimately involved in the correct assembly of the basement membrane. The chapter starts by describing laminin structures and nomenclature, followed by detailing key interaction partners in the basement membrane, and finally describes its signaling properties. It then moves into details of specific laminin types, examples of laminin mutations and their implications in humans, and finally describes key features of individual laminin subchains.
