Abstract
Purpose. To determine if Automated Lamellar Keratoplasty (ALK) has any significant effect on the acuracy of applanation intraocular pressure measurement. Methods. Review of all ALK refractive surgery cases by one surgeon (H.S.) from 12/93 to 08/94. Preoperative IOP, 1 yr & 2 yr IOP measurements were compared. Results. 93 patients underwent ALK OU. All patients had preoperative IOP measurements; 15 patients completed 2 yr followup and of these 11 patients have 1 & 2 year pressure measurements post procedure. 78 patients are in the 1 year post op category of these 66 have at least one postoperative pressure measurement. By a point to point comparison, the intraocular pressure measurement did not vary by more than 3 mm Hg increase or decrease. In vitro corrleation using cadaver eyes will be performed after simulated ALK in a double masked fashion. Conclusions. Based on this clinical evaluation there is no significant effect on IOP measurement after ALK. Further substantiation with in vitro study is warranted.
