Abstract
Most biliary calculi can be removed with standard percutaneous or endoscopic techniques. Large stones are the most common cause for failure. Intracorporeal lithotripsy can be used in either the biliary tree or gallbladder to fragment these large stones and allow percutaneous removal or passage. The authors describe the current status of intracorporeal biliary lithotripsy including electrohydraulic, ultrasonic, and laser lithotripsy.
