Abstract
Meshell Ndegeocello’s 2024 album, No More Water: The Gospel of James Baldwin, deploys not only Baldwin’s texts but the author as Black queer icon. In this review of a stop on her concert tour of the album, Rebecca Wanzo argues that she inter-pellates those who know Baldwin deeply as well as those who do not. Both the album and performance evoke Black queer artists and liberation struggles of the past and present in order to speak across space and time.
