Abstract

HRGC/HRMS selected ion monitoring (SIM) in the mass profile (MP) mode provides higher certainty than the conventional peak top (PT) mode. The investigation of mass profile peak shape, central mass shift, and sequential changes during GC elution not only substantially improves the diagnostic capability of HRGC/HRMS-SIM but also may lead to identification of unknown compounds. A detection limit of femtograms of PCDD/F can be achievable by the MP mode operation on a modern GC/MS system.
